Texas Longhorn in Bluebonnets

A Texas longhorn reclines in a field of bluebonnets, its sweeping horns and gentle gaze rendered stitch by stitch in silk. Hand-embroidered in the Suzhou tradition, thousands of fine silk threads build the animal’s warm, dappled coat and the soft blue haze of the flowers around it.

The Story — The Longhorn in the Bluebonnets

The longhorn is the enduring symbol of Texas — hardy, patient and unmistakable, with horns that can span wider than a man is tall. Each spring it shares the prairie with the bluebonnet, the Texas state flower, which carpets the fields in blue for a few short weeks. This piece brings the two together: a quiet moment of rest in the middle of the bloom, painted not with a brush but with silk thread, tone laid upon tone until the coat, the horns and the flowers seem lit from within.
